ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

About the festival

Te Anau's Tartan Festival - a great Fiordland day (in fact make that a weekend) out for families to celebrate
that wee bit of highlander in all of us! You may even get to see some of our province's top highland dancers
and bagpipers too.

The Concept

Te Anau's Tartan Festival is a chance to celebrate the south's Scottish roots and our own Southland Kiwi spirit. While serious highland performers compete in front of their home crowd and national judges, southern families will enjoy a fine tartan-themed day out with good food, a bumper Easter market, rousing entertainment and a variety of specially adapted highland games open to all.

The Atmosphere

If you are looking for a fun and festive day out with new sights and sounds, hot food and good company, then Te Anau's Tartan Festival is for you. So add a flash of your favourite tartan and bring the clan - or simply join ours, because there definitely will be something for everyone at this year's Te Anau Tartan Festival.

The Energy

Finding your inner highlander spirit is easy - especially when surrounded by the sight of kilts and the skirl of the bagpipe. Our family friendly highland games have been specially designed for all ages and abilities. Try your hand at caber or sheaf tossing, rock carrying or the Kiwi farmers' walk. And if running is your sport then the Kilted Mile race may be just for you - special prizes if you are running in a kilt (of course).
